AN EXHIBITION OF WORK BY WILLIAM WYLIE, THOMAS HAGER AND COREY DRIETH OPENS AT THE PAGE BOND GALLERY APRIL 3, 2009

William Wylie’s latest photographic exhibition Anatomia, materialized during the creation of a previous series of the marble quarries of Carrara, Italy. Having spent many rainy days viewing the objects in the collections of the Accademia di Bella Arti, Wylie has transformed these century old fragmented antiques and has visually captured the timeless qualities of this space and its anatomic inhabitants.

These works by William Wylie, Thomas Hager and Corey Drieth will be on view at the Page Bond Gallery, 1625 West Main Street, with an opening reception for the artists, Friday, April 3, 2009 from 7 to 9 PM. The exhibition will be on view at the gallery through April 25.

William Wylie’s new work is based on the objects in the collections of the Accademia di Bella Arti located in Carrara, Italy. The building is the old palace of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Pietro Leopoldo. It became the home of the art academy in the 1800’s. These photographs continue Wylie’s self-proclaimed work as a “collector”.
Wylie received his MFA from the University of Michigan and his BFA from Colorado State University. He has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and is a 2005 Guggenheim Memorial Fellow. William Wylie is currently an Associate Professor of Art at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

Thomas Hager captures organic forms within nature using an aesthetic of timeless sophistication in the vintage photographic process, Kallitype. His painterly, figurative works reference the mediums historical contributions of documentation and scientific examination.

A native of Washington, DC, Hager currently lives in Florida where he received his BFA in Photography from the University of North Florida. He has exhibited his photographs throughout the east coast and has received numerous awards and grants. His work can be found in major public and private collections including, The Federal Reserve Bank, The Henry Buhl Collection, and the Florida Gulf Coast Art Museum.

Corey Drieth’s paintings on plywood create a visual dialogue between painted surface and wooden substrate. The resonance of this interaction is at once mysterious and intimately familiar. The work is small in scale and the spare, minimal nature of each piece serves as a foil to the frenetic activity of contemporary life

Drieth received his MFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Carolina and his BFA from Colorado State University. His work has been exhibited in cities throughout the United States including San Francisco, Albuquerque, Washington, DC, and New Orleans.
