JaydaN MOORE
GHOSTS

October 2 – October 31, 2020

Page Bond Gallery is thrilled to announce the second solo exhibition of gallery artist, Jaydan Moore. His new body of work, GHOSTS, features Jaydan’s first collection of silverpoint drawings, alongside banner-shaped, silver hanging pieces. Moore cites his work as an “exploration of heirlooms”; he utilizes found silver-plated platters as material to cut, fuse, mold and manipulate into sculpture of varying form and size. His works meditate upon the historical, functional, valuable and personal boundaries of such objects in the way they are handed down, utilized and transformed over the years.

The impetus for Moore’s focus upon object/memory dynamics harkens to his upbringing in a family of fourth-generation tombstone artisans. Moore has held onto memories such as rummaging through the belongings of the deceased in his parent’s rental storage warehouse as a child, and listening in on families making final arrangements for their loved ones. For Moore, deconstructing and reassembling the silver-plate ware reflects an individual’s ability to do the same with their own memories. These new forms exist as tomes to all of the past incarnations of these objects, resulting in commemorative vessels taking on new life.

Moore earned his BA from California College of the Arts, in Oakland, and received his MFA and MA from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has shown in recent exhibitions at Design/Miami (FL), Basel (SWI), and Cheongju Craft Biennale (South Korea). Moore was recently awarded third place for the Virginia A. Groot Foundation Grant, and also received an artist relief grant from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. He has also held teaching appointments at Rhode Island School of Design, California College of the Arts, the Penland School of Crafts, and is currently working in his Richmond, VA studio full time.
