Professional Appointments

Professor Emeritus, Painting and Printmaking Department, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA

My work comes from everything I ever looked at, dreamed about or remembered.  I am moved by feelings I get from vast spaces that go from my eye to the vanishing point.  I paint things that are the greatest distance from my eye, more felt than observed.  I work quickly: formal considerations are almost second nature to me now.  What I am searching for is not the recording of place, but the poetic mystery within it.
