Taking inspiration from depictions of nature throughout art history with particular focus on the way in which 16th & 17th-century vanitas still-life paintings explore themes of transience, Sarah Mizer renders nature’s assorted greenery from alley volunteers to champion bouquets.

Sarah’s work has exhibited at venues such as Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, Chrysler Museum of Art, the Taubman Museum, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, The Center for Craft Creativity and Design and the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts. Via material and display, Mizer employs her illustrations to present themes of time and fragility. With a concentration in glass, Sarah earned her BFA from Alfred University and her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. Mizer has continued her material-focused research as Artist in Residence at Mountain Lake Biological Station, Penland School for Crafts, Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and the Studios of Key West.
