Page Bond Gallery is pleased to present Sarah Irvin: Plus or Minus. The exhibition features new works on paper. In her Ink series, Irvin write cursive text on smooth, non-absorbent Yupo paper using ink and then use a squeegee to destroy the marks. The ink spreads across the surface into a new composition. The resulting marks are the remnant of the written word, but the meaning has been removed. The writing comes from phrases and words that her daughter has said as she learns to talk, as well as her own memories of a family member who suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease. The series is an effort to represent the acquisition and subsequent potential loss of language, as well as its vast capacity and shortcomings.
