Page Bond Gallery is pleased to present Text Me: A group exhibition featuring work by Mel Bochner, Richard Carlyon, Mark Fox, Mat Gasparek, John Giorno, Harris Johnson, Todd McKie, Holly Morrison, Adam Pendleton, Ed Ruscha, Cy Twombly and Fiona Watson. The exhibitions open Friday, October 5 from 6 to 8PM and is on view through October 27, 2018.

John Giorno was a stockbroker following his graduation from Columbia University. In the early 60’s he met Andy Warhol, whose impact shines through in Giorno’s text based work, which appropriates stylistic choices of much advertising and signage. As with his 1968 Dial-a-Poem project, through which listeners used telephones to listen to recorded poems, sometimes the statement is less coherent than the sound and color, which redounds producing its own vernacular and proclamation.

Mel Bochner is an American conceptual artist best known for his text-based paintings. In 1962 he graduated from Carnegie Mellon with a BFA in 1962 and in 2005, earned an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the university’s School of Art. The son of a sign painter, Bochner’s thesaurus painting series displays lists of synonyms on multi-colored palettes, featuring either a single word or phrase in capital letters.

The Page Bond Gallery, located at 1625 West Main Street exhibits contemporary art in a wide variety of media and disciplines including painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture and ceramics. The gallery acts as a venue for the work of emerging and established artists with local, national, and international reputations.
