I find myself in continual pursuit of the truth of things. I paint to invoke something aesthetically raw and authentic. The work isn’t emotional (at least not directly); it’s about aliveness, color, beauty, and more of a visceral, visual, wordless way of being awake and present in the world. Color and form are my subjects. From the first mark, each painting presents a dilemma — how to resolve. My process is tactile and intuitive, like chasing a feeling of equilibrium, and I spend a great deal of time thinking about the work, in and out of the studio. Balance is achieved with lots of white paint, color, lines, adding and subtracting layers, building and flattening, complicating and then quieting. Many paintings take me months to resolve. Finished work feels balanced and true.

Painting is my personal, visceral response to the world.  I use paint to evoke something aesthetically raw and authentic. Color and form are my subjects.

Each painting emerges from path of its own. Resolution of the painting is the goal from the first mark, and I spend a great deal of time thinking about the work, in and out of the studio. I work to build and balance the painting’s architecture using color, lots of white, lines, organic shapes, straight edges, layers. Many paintings take months to resolve. Finished work feels aesthetically balanced and true.
